AUSTRALIAN QUIDDITCH CHAMPIONSHIPS RETURN TO VIC

Quidditch Australia has announced that after six years, the Australian Quidditch Championships will return to Victoria in December of 2021.

In 2011, Quidditch was catching on around the world and a group of students led by the Quidditch Universities Australia Federation League Cup Organiser Justin Chau at UNSW put together the then-biggest quidditch tournament Australian quidditch had ever seen. Five teams; UNSW, UWS, UON, UOW, and ANU attended the first-ever QUAFL Championships on November 26 at UNSW.

The tournament went for one day, with a hard cap of 30 minutes game-time, a seeker-floor of 10 minutes, and off-pitch seeking from then until 18-24 minutes. UNSW won the Grand Final, cementing their place in the quidditch history book as the first National Champion.

Since then, there have been 8 further Championships. Winners have included; UNSW Quidditch Society Snapes on a Plane for a second time, Perth Phoenixes, Melbourne Manticores Quidditch Club thrice taking the cup, Wrackspurts Quidditch Club, Whomping Willows Quidditch Club, and Monash Muggles Quidditch Club.

2020 was meant to mark the 10th-anniversary celebration of QUAFL, however, sadly due to COVID-19, the event was postponed.

This delay has not stopped Quidditch Australia from continuing to strive to deliver a 10th-anniversary celebration. As such, it is with much excitement that we announce the time and location of the 2021 QUAFL: Australian Quidditch Championships!

For 2021, the Australian Quidditch Championships will be held at Melbourne's La Trobe Sports Park at La Trobe University on the 4th and 5th of December. After six consecutive wins by Melbourne based teams and six years away from Melbourne, this year, the championships return to Victoria.

This year looks to be the best QUAFL held to date. Boasting state of the art fields and facilities, Quidditch Australia is confident all our members shall enjoy this setting for our 10-year celebration event.

COVID-19 continues to have an enormous impact on the entire Quidditch Australia community and will also have an impact on the structure and format of this year’s national championships. We are positive that the entire community will still come together and show the world that the level of quidditch in Australia remains high and that we as a community cannot, and will not, be held down.
