The VQA is excited to be hosting a series of referee and snitching workshops after the games of round’s 2, 3, 4 and 5. These workshops will be open to all VQA members so as a community we can improve our skills across these areas and build confidence in our players and volunteers.
Workshops will be held at Cordner Oval after each round, starting at approximately 2pm.

ROUND 2, April 9th: Referee Workshop with Liam McCoppin
This workshop is aimed at all members of the VQA community, featuring general rules discussions, busting those common misconceptions and focusing on the role of the refereeing team. It is highly recommended that anyone planning to AR, SR or GR during the season attend this workshop.
ROUND 3, April 23rd: Snitching Workshop with Nathan Morton
The workshops aims to teach and consolidate for all snitches, new and experienced, the basic techniques of being a good snitch and how to create a safe and fair environment during a game. This workshop is directed at all individuals who play to snitch during the 2017 season, but all VQA members are welcome to attend.
ROUND 4, April 30th: Head Referee Workshop with Liam McCoppin
This workshop aims to train new and current Head Referees on practical skills such as positioning and game awareness to improve their on pitch confidence and abilities. It will also focus on decision making, working with a referee team and handling conflict and difficult situations during a game.
ROUND 5, May 7th: Snitching Workshop with Nathan Morton
This final workshop will again go over the basics but also focus on some more advanced snitching techniques as well as how to integrate these skills into gameplay, while keeping it fair for both seekers.

All workshops are free, however it is essential to RSVP to the snitching workshops so we can ensure we have enough snitch shorts/socks to run the workshop successfully.

LOCATION: Cordner Oval is located only a field away from our old location on lawn 14, so if you do find yourself a little lost if you do accidently head to our old field out of habit please look for the quidditch goals inside the fenced off football field in the distance towards Commercial Road end of the park.

PARKING: If you need to drive to Fawkner Park, it is still recommended you look for a park on Pasley Street as this is closest to the fields. However, due to the park being popular and hosting a number of other sports, we recommend you arrive early and give yourself plenty of time to find parking.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT: Public transport is the easiest way to get to Fawkner Park. The Sandringham, Frankston, Pakenham and Cranbourne lines all stop at South Yarra station which is only a 10-minute walk down Toorak road to the park.
The number 8 tram stops at the Toorak road end of the park (stop #26), and number 72 tram at the Commercial road end of the park (Alfred Hospital stop). Both these trams can be caught to and from the CBD as well as passing through domain interchange, a hub for many tram routes.
Bus routes 220, 246, 216 and 219 all stop close to the park as well. A number of other trams also travel along St. Kilda road, as shown on the PT map below. To map your journey, visit: https://www.ptv.vic.gov.au/

After the games, the VQA invites all players and spectators to come down to Lucky Coq, 179 Chapel Street Windsor, for some cool drinks, $4 pizza, and great company. Click here to join the facebook event!

The VQA has also included some exciting new features on our website, including a league calendar of upcoming games and results and a league standings page to be updated after every round. You can now also view upcoming matches on the sidebar of the website and team specific upcoming matches on each teams page. We are looking into further being able to calculate player statistics such as snitch catches and goal scorers through the website in future.

Victorian Fantasy Tournament Registration 2017

On the 4th and 5th of March 2017, the VQA will host their third annual Victorian Fantasy Tournament (VFT). Returning to Monash University, host to such events to QUAFL 2015 and the inaugural VFT, The Victorian Fantasy Tournament is two days of round robin style play and an elimination finals bracket. The VQA welcomes both old and new players to attend!

The tournament will also play host to the three exhibition games between the Victorian Leadbeaters and NSW Blue Tongue Wizards. *GAME TIMES TBA*

For those who are unaware, a fantasy tournament is mercenary style tournament in which players sign up individually, providing details about their position and playing style. General Managers of teams shall be chosen based on the registration form and are then responsible for drafting their team. We are aiming for two GM’s per team to ensure an even draft. Our aim is to offer players both a fun and competitive environment to test their skills with new teammates and against different opponents.

Registration closes on Wednesday the 22nd with the draft taking place on Thursday 23rd of February. This allows time for our GM’s to draft their teams. Late registrations will be considered but not are guaranteed. Payments made be made via PayPal only; the form will automatically open a PayPal window. Any uncompleted payments or registrations will not be accepted.

Your tournament fee ($40) will include and cover:
BBQ Lunch provided
Tournament tee in your team’s colour
Referee payments
First aid hire
Field hire

All participants are required to be Quidditch Australia members for insurance purposes. To sign up for Quidditch Australia membership, visit: http://www.quidditch.org.au/membership/

Victorian Leadbeaters Player Applications Open for Victorian Fantasy Exhibition Games
